Jeremy Avrum Yellen

Jeremy A. Yellen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Japanese Studies at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), specializing in modern Japanese history, empire, and international relations. His scholarship bridges transnational and comparative approaches to contextualize Japan's wartime policies and imperial dynamics.

• PhD in History from Harvard University (2012)

His research focuses on Modern Japan, the Japanese Empire, and intersections of War Studies, Political History, and Transnational History. His work explores decolonization, empire-building, and the global implications of Japan's wartime diplomacy.

Jeremy has authored two major monographs: The Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere (2019) and Japan at War, 1914-1952 (2025). These publications reflect his expertise in analyzing Japan's imperial ambitions and wartime decision-making through comparative and international frameworks.
