Jens Noack

Jens Noack is an Adjunct Associate Professor at UNSW Sydney's Faculty of Engineering and a Senior Scientist at the Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology in Germany. His primary research focuses on redox flow batteries, renewable energy storage, and electrochemical systems. He has led numerous national and international projects, including the development of Europe’s largest vanadium redox flow battery and coordinates projects totaling over 7 million AUD.

Education:

• Chemical Engineering and Environmental Technology from Dresden University of Applied Sciences (Germany).

Research Interests: Jens specializes in electrochemical energy storage systems, material development for batteries, and scaling-up energy storage technologies. His work bridges fundamental research and industrial applications, emphasizing sustainable solutions for renewable energy integration.

Leadership & Committees:

• Chairman of the German national committee “Flow Batteries” (DKE AK 371.0.6).
• Member of IEC committees JWG 7 and JWG 82 on flow batteries and renewable energy storage.
• Member of the International Flow Battery Forum’s scientific committee since 2016.

Grants & Projects: Coordinates projects like CENELEST (German-Australian alliance) and SONAR (European-Australian collaboration), focusing on electrochemical storage technologies.

Labs & Teams: Leads the Fraunhofer ICT’s Department of Applied Electrochemistry, collaborating with global institutions on energy storage innovations.
