Univ.-Prof. Dr. Jens Müller is a Professor at the Institute of Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry at the University of Münster. His research focuses on bioinorganic chemistry, particularly the synthesis of luminescent metal complexes and metal/DNA conjugates for bioimaging applications, with participation in the "Cells in Motion" research initiative.
Professor Müller's research spans metal-mediated base pairs in DNA, luminescent metal complexes for bioimaging, nucleic acid chemistry with metal ions, and platinum(II) and silver(I) complexes for DNA modification. His work explores how metal ions can be used to create artificial base pairs in DNA through silver(I), mercury(II), copper(II), and platinum(II) coordination, enabling molecular recognition, biosensing, and nanotechnology applications. Recent advances include developing novel artificial nucleobases that form stable metal-mediated pairs and investigating their structural and thermodynamic properties.
Analysis of his recent publications shows a strong focus on luminescent properties of metal-DNA complexes, particularly platinum(II) systems for guanine quadruplex binding and silver(I)-mediated base pairs for creating fluorescent DNA-templated silver nanoclusters.
