Jenny Wüstenberg is Professor of History & Memory Studies at Nottingham Trent University's School of Social Sciences (Department of Humanities). She co-leads AIMS@NTU (Advancing Interdisciplinary Memory Studies) and chairs the Memory Studies Research Group. Previously, she held positions at American University, Free University of Berlin, and York University (Toronto) after earning her PhD in Government & Politics from the University of Maryland.
Research Interests: Her work explores:
- Civil society's role in memory politics and transnational perspectives
- 'Slow memory' frameworks for analyzing gradual societal changes (e.g., climate transitions)
- Comparative studies of family separation legacies in settler-colonial states
- Decommemoration (statue removal/renaming) and democratic memory practices
Her publications (2016–2026) predominantly analyze memory activism methodologies, transnational memorialization, and German/European memory politics, using interdisciplinary approaches bridging history, political science, and sociology.
Leadership & Grants:
- Co-founded the Memory Studies Association and chairs the EU COST Action on Slow Memory
- Secured funding from AHRC, ESRC, DAAD, and Fritz-Thyssen-Foundation for projects like 'Post-Socialist Britain?'
- Knowledge Exchange Fellow for HERA's crisis research initiative (2025–2028)
She teaches courses including HIST401 History & Memory and supervises dissertations on German/colonial histories and memory politics.
