Dr. Jenny Munro is an Associate Professor at the School of Social Science, University of Queensland, and a cultural anthropologist specializing in medical anthropology, critical global health, and gender studies. Her ethnographic work in Indonesia and the Pacific Islands examines healthcare access, gendered violence, racial stigma, and maternal health.
- Education: PhD in Anthropology from the Australian National University
Her research explores health inequities, reproductive justice, and postcolonial health systems, with recent studies on hospital birth cultures in Indonesia and Indigenous women's health strategies in Papua. She collaborates with institutions across Indonesia, Singapore, and the Pacific.
Notable scientific awards include the 2025 Wang Gungwu Prize for her work on West Papuan women with HIV. She has supervised over 15 PhD candidates in gender-based violence, climate grief, and Pacific seasonal workers' health. Current funding from the Australian Research Council (2025-2027) supports her work on C-section experiences in Indonesia.
