Jenny-Lee Thomassin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology & Immunology at the University of Saskatchewan. Her research focuses on bacterial interactions with their environment, particularly molecular mechanisms of protein secretion and bacterial survival strategies.
- BSc Biology, hons. (2006) Saint Mary’s University
- Dipl. Forensic Science (2006) Saint Mary’s University
- MSc Microbiology and Immunology (2009) Dalhousie University
- PhD Microbiology and Immunology (2014) McGill University
Dr. Thomassin’s lab investigates bacterial Type II secretion systems (T2SS) in Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli, combining molecular microbiology and structural biology approaches. Research emphasizes T2SS regulation, protein secretion mechanisms, and host processes targeted by secreted enzymes.
Recent publications highlight her work on OmpT-like proteases in uropathogenic E. coli, structural analysis of T2SS pseudopilus, and CpxRA two-component system essentiality in Citrobacter rodentium. These studies demonstrate multidisciplinary approaches spanning molecular genetics, bacterial physiology, and host-pathogen interactions.
