Dr. Jenny Hayes is a University Teacher in Data Science / Analytics at the Information School, part of the School of Information, Journalism and Communication at the University of Sheffield. She holds a BSc from Liverpool University, an MSc, and a PhD from the University of Sheffield (completed 2022). Her research focuses on digital activism, social media analysis, and the distribution of advocacy content online, as evidenced by her PhD titled 'Palestinian Solidarity on Social Media: The Distribution of Images of Occupation on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram by Advocacy Organisations'. She currently teaches modules on the MSc Data Science programme and contributes to undergraduate courses such as Digital Media and Society.
Teaching activities include modules like Data Analysis (INF6029), Data and Society (INF6033), and Researching Social Media (INF6024). Her work bridges data science methodologies with sociological inquiry into digital platforms. Recent research includes a systematic review of digital activism methodologies published in Information, Communication & Society (2022).
