معرفی
Dr. Jenny Hall is an Associate Professor in Tourism and Events at York Business School, York St John University. As a cultural geographer, her interdisciplinary research explores social and ecological justice across tourism, leisure, events, heritage, and sport. She serves as the York Business School lead for the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME), embedding UN Global Compact principles within curriculum, research, and partnerships.
Her research interests focus on intersectional experiences of inequality in adventure tourism, particularly examining gender dynamics in mountaineering. Dr. Hall's work investigates how Welsh women face discrimination through lack of recognition of their indigeneity in mountain environments and how speaking Welsh helps them connect to cultural identity. She also explores regenerative tourism approaches, spatial justice in urban heritage contexts, and the impact of climate crisis on protected areas. Her research has influenced policy in UK mountaineering organizations and informed practical toolkits for Mountain Rescue England and Wales to improve equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Dr. Hall's recent publications reveal a strong focus on gender representation in mountaineering history, with particular attention to figures like Junko Tabei and Julie Tullis. Her work consistently examines the sensory and affective dimensions of adventure experiences, while also addressing broader issues of spatial justice in tourist-historic cities, particularly in the context of pandemic recovery. A significant portion of her recent research investigates dark sky conservation and how public engagement can achieve environmental conservation goals.

Her work with the North York Moors National Park includes a five-year research evaluation of the REConnect Climate Action project (2024-2029) to evaluate how connecting local communities with nature conservation affects species recovery.
Dr. Hall leads the international partnership for the Slowing Down Tourism Scholarship and Practice in the Era of the Anthropocene conference series, which attracted over 140 delegates from 39 countries in 2023. She also works with the North York Moors Trust on regenerative tourism pilot research projects exploring dark skies and public engagement for conservation goals.
