Laureate Professor Jenny Gore serves as Director of the Teachers and Teaching Research Centre at the University of Newcastle's School of Education. With over three decades of academic leadership, she has established herself as Australia's leading researcher in teaching and teacher education (2022), earning recognition including the Member of the Order of Australia (2024) for significant service to tertiary education. Her work has secured more than $33 million in research funding and generated over 15,000 citations.
Gore earned her Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Wisconsin (1990), Master of Physical Education from the University of British Columbia (1984), and Bachelor of Education from Adelaide College of the Arts and Education (1981). She began her career as a secondary physical education teacher in South Australia before transitioning to academic research and leadership roles.
Professor Gore's research consistently centers on quality and equity in education, spanning topics from teacher socialization to pedagogical reform. She is best known for developing the Quality Teaching model and Quality Teaching Rounds approach, which has been implemented in over 2,300 government, 300 Catholic, and 30 independent schools across Australia. Her work challenges persistent educational challenges through comprehensive programs addressing teacher development, student outcomes, and educational aspirations. The Quality Teaching framework has been incorporated into the NSW Government's blueprint (Great Teaching Inspired Learning) for all NSW Schools.
Analysis of Gore's recent publications reveals a strong focus on teacher professional development, educational equity, and the impact of the pandemic on schooling. Her research demonstrates how pedagogy-focused professional development can improve teaching quality across diverse contexts, with particular attention to rural and disadvantaged schools. As Director of the Teachers and Teaching Research Centre, Gore leads a collaborative team including Jim Albright, Julie Bowe, Leanne Fray, Jess Harris, Kath Holmes, David Lubans, James Ladwig, Wendy Miller, Drew Miller, Nicole Mockler, Sally Patfield, Elena Prieto, Max Smith, and Erica Southgate.
