Jenny Gallop is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Cambridge. Her research focuses on understanding how the actin cytoskeleton is regulated during cell movement and development, with particular emphasis on filopodia formation and phosphoinositide signaling. She leads the Gallop Group, which employs interdisciplinary approaches combining cell-free systems, model organisms (fruit flies, frogs), and human cell cultures to study actin assembly mechanisms.
Her key research interests include the molecular mechanisms of actin polymerization, the role of membrane composition and curvature in cytoskeletal control, and translational applications to diseases like cancer metastasis and kidney dysfunction. The group develops tools like the Filopodyan analysis pipeline and investigates therapeutic interventions targeting actin dysregulation.
Gallop's work bridges biochemistry, cell biology, and developmental biology, addressing fundamental questions about cellular organization and disease pathogenesis. She collaborates with researchers at the Gurdon Institute and hosts opportunities for students and postdocs across training levels.
