Jenny Fisher

Professor Jenny Fisher is currently the Associate Dean (Learning & Teaching) and Professor in the College of Science and Engineering at James Cook University (primary affiliation since January 2025), while maintaining an honorary professorship at the University of Wollongong (UOW). She holds a Ph.D. in Earth & Planetary Sciences from Harvard University (2011) and a B.S. in Planetary Science from the California Institute of Technology (2005). Her research focuses on atmospheric pollution dynamics, using global chemical transport models combined with observational data to understand impacts of human and natural processes on atmospheric composition.

Research Interests:

• Mercury biogeochemistry and Southern Hemisphere cycling
• Novel atmospheric chemical reaction mechanisms
• Short-lived climate pollutants in the Southern Hemisphere
• Biogenic emissions and chemistry in tropical/subtropical regions
• Climate modeling and high-resolution simulations

Teaching: Develops programming and modeling curricula for earth science undergraduates, emphasizing computational tools like Python and Jupyter Notebooks. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes hands-on learning through lab exercises and model applications.

Labs & Collaborations: Leads the Centre for Atmospheric Chemistry at UOW and collaborates globally on field campaigns like NASA SEAC4RS and COALA. Active in science policy through roles like Science Policy Fellow (Australian Government, 2024) and former Associate Dean for Equity, Diversity & Inclusion at UOW (2020-2023).
