Jenny Coady is an Associate Professor in Computer Science at Heriot-Watt University's School of Mathematical & Computer Sciences, based on the Edinburgh Campus. She has held leadership roles including Deputy Head of Computer Science, Director of Learning and Teaching, and currently serves as Associate Dean (Science & Engineering). Her research focuses on educational pedagogies, international student experiences, and information systems, with a strong emphasis on improving teaching quality and student experience through global university initiatives.
Education Background: Began academic career at Waterford Institute of Technology (now SETU) in 2003, then Queen Margaret University (2005), before joining Heriot-Watt in 2005. Promoted to Associate Professor in 2014.
Research Interests: Explores design methodologies in information systems, HCI, and educational strategies. Active in studying international student transitions through visual research methods like Rich Pictures. Engaged in global education policy through roles like Chair of the Global MCATSS Working Group and School Discipline Committee.
External Engagement: Serves as External Examiner for multiple UK and international institutions including Staffordshire University, Lincoln University, and Cardiff Metropolitan University. Participates in external validation panels for programs in the UK, Greece, and the Middle East.
Leadership & Awards: Recipient of 2014 and 2015 Learning & Teaching Oscars awards. Leads initiatives on mitigating circumstances policies and international program articulations across Heriot-Watt's global campuses. Actively involved in developing new programs and cross-campus collaborations.
