Dr. Jennifer Young serves as Dean of the Faculty of Business & Design and Associate Professor of Creative Writing at Falmouth University. She joined Falmouth in 2019 as Head of Writing and Journalism after thirteen years at the University of Hertfordshire where she held positions as senior lecturer in Creative Writing and Associate Dean in the School of Humanities. In 2023, she was appointed Associate Professor of Creative Writing, and in 2024 assumed the newly created role of Head of People Success, focusing on wellness, wellbeing support strategies, and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) initiatives across the entire university.

Dr. Young's research centers on genre fiction, particularly historical and crime fiction with emphasis on women's roles in heritage professions. Her work examines the depiction of perimenopausal women in paranormal cozy crime novels and explores the intersection between heritage and creativity. Her research incorporates archaeological perspectives and pedagogical approaches, reflecting her interdisciplinary interests.
Her historical thriller trilogy set in 1950s Britain demonstrates her research interests through narrative. The series examines Cold War tensions, women's agency in historical contexts, and the relationship between archaeology and contemporary social issues, with particular attention to gender dynamics and professional barriers faced by women in heritage fields.

Dr. Young has supervised numerous research students to completion, with five students having completed their degrees under her guidance. She serves as Community Governor for Kernow Learning, contributing to educational policy development in Cornwall. Her professional engagement includes work with Helen Lederer on the Comedy Women in Print prize, where she served as head judge for the unpublished category in 2022, and collaborations with organizations including Luton Museum, the Society of Antiquaries, and the International Cocoa Organisation.
She maintains active involvement with professional associations including the Society of Authors, National Association of Writers in Education, and Sisters in Crime UK/EU chapter.
