Jennifer West

Jennifer West is an Associate Professor of the Practice of Fine Arts at the Roski School of Art and Design, University of Southern California. She is a Los Angeles-based artist known for her experimental work in film, sculpture, and installation, exploring the intersection of analog and digital media through her concept of the "Analogital."

Education:

• Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, California
• Bachelor of Arts (BA) from Evergreen State College, Olympia, Washington

Her research interests focus on materialism in film, media archaeology, and urban renewal, often tied to the evolving geography of Los Angeles. She has produced over a dozen major film and installation projects between 2014–2020 under the "Media Archaeology" umbrella, which challenge techno-utopian narratives and analog nostalgia.

Grants and Support: Her work has received grant funding from the Thoma Foundation (Santa Fe, NM) for her monograph Jennifer West: Media Archaeology (Radius Books, 2022).

Artistic Achievements: West has held significant commissions including works for the Seattle Art Museum (2016–2017), Institute of Contemporary Arts, London (2016), High Line, New York, NY (2012), and Tate Modern, London (2009). Her work is collected by institutions such as the Getty Museum, Yuz Museum, and Rubell Collection.

Residencies: She has been an artist-in-residence at SOMA (Mexico City, 2019), EMPAC at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Troy, NY, 2014–15), and MIT List Visual Arts Center (Cambridge, MA, 2011–12).
