Dr. Jennifer Thompson is a Senior Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at Swansea University, affiliated with the School of Aerospace, Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. She holds Chartered Engineer status (IMechE, 2017) and specializes in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), multi-physics simulations, and Industry 4.0 technologies. Her current research focuses on Digital Twin development and optimization techniques, building on her EngD (2011) and postdoctoral work with the ASTUTE team at Swansea.
Education: BEng (Hons) Engineering Science (Fluid Dynamics specialization) from Oxford University (2001), followed by an Engineering Doctorate (EngD) at Swansea University. Prior academic roles include post-doctoral research in applied CFD and optimization. Teaching responsibilities include coordinating the Industry 4.0 module for third-year students and teaching optimization techniques at the master’s level.
Research highlights include CFD modeling for gas atomization processes and sensor integration for railway infrastructure monitoring. Her work bridges theoretical simulation and industrial applications, emphasizing practical implementation of digital technologies. She supervises four ongoing PhD/EngD projects on topics ranging from fire performance modeling to advanced material applications in aero-engines.
