Jennifer Tackett is a Professor of Psychology at Northwestern University, directing the Personality Across Development (PAD) Lab. Her research focuses on adolescent personality development, leadership, and psychopathology, using multidisciplinary methods like genetic analysis, hormone studies, and behavioral assessments. She co-leads the Illinois Twins Project, a groundbreaking database examining gene-environment interactions in twins. Tackett’s work emphasizes understanding how traits like aggression and sensation-seeking influence risky behaviors, relationships, and academic outcomes. She also holds roles as Director of Clinical Psychology Training at Northwestern and editorial positions at prominent journals.
Education includes a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Minnesota, and prior faculty appointments at the University of Toronto and University of Houston. Key awards include the Samuel J. and Anne G. Beck Award (2013) and Early Career Award (2011). Her research spans topics such as leadership in adversity, the role of personal values in mental health, and the Hierarchical Taxonomy of Psychopathology (HiTOP).
Tackett’s PAD Lab has engaged over 7,000 participants, exploring youth psychopathology, personality dynamics, and resilience. Her work bridges developmental, clinical, and quantitative psychology, advocating for open science practices and methodological rigor in psychological research.
