Jennifer Schwartz Poehlmann is a Senior Lecturer of Chemistry at Stanford University, affiliated with the Department of Chemistry and the School of Humanities and Sciences. She coordinates and co-teaches Stanford’s introductory chemistry courses for ~450 students annually. Her roles include developing teaching programs and enhancing STEM education for undergraduates and high school students.
Education: PhD in Inorganic Chemistry from Stanford University (2008), BA in Chemistry from Washington University (2002).
Research & Teaching Focus: Innovations in undergraduate STEM education, mentorship of teaching assistants, and outreach programs. She created the Leland Scholars Program and companion courses (Chem31A-C, 31B-C, 33-C) to strengthen student problem-solving skills. Her outreach work includes the 'Inspiring Future Scientists in Chemistry' program, engaging local high school students in hands-on chemistry activities.
Teaching Mentorship: Co-founded the Mentors in Teaching (MinT) program, training teaching mentors across 15+ departments. She directed the Chemistry Department’s TA Training program and emphasizes reflective teaching practices.
