Daniel L. Schwartz is the I. James Quillen Dean and Nomellini & Olivier Professor of Educational Technology at Stanford University's Graduate School of Education. He also serves as Halper Family Faculty Director of the Stanford Accelerator for Learning, an interdisciplinary initiative advancing educational science and design. His expertise spans human learning, educational technology, and cognitive neuroscience. He has taught in diverse settings, including rural Kenya, Los Angeles, and Alaska, and authored 'The ABCs of How We Learn' and co-hosts the GSE podcast 'School's In.'
Dr. Schwartz earned a PhD in Human Cognition and Learning from Columbia University, an MA in Computers and Education, and a BA in Philosophy and Anthropology from Swarthmore College. His research focuses on instructional methods, transfer of learning, mathematical development, and teachable agents.
His awards include the Sylvia Scribner Award (2015), Career Achievement in Educational Psychology (APA, 2021), and the Klaus Jacobs Prize (2021). He advises postdoctoral scholars like Ana Saavedra and teaches courses on statistical methods, directed research, and education leadership.
His work emphasizes creating pedagogical tools and assessments to foster lifelong learning. Notable projects include studies on walking's effects on creativity, feedback mechanisms in learning games, and leveraging extended realities for knowledge work.
