Jennifer Ramsay is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Anthropology at the State University of New York at Brockport. She earned her PhD in 2008 and has since specialized in archaeobotanical analysis to investigate past societal lifeways, with a focus on the Roman and Late Antique periods, as well as broader temporal ranges including the Neolithic, Bronze, and Iron Ages, and Islamic periods. Her fieldwork spans sites in Jordan, Israel, and Italy, such as Petra, Pompeii, and Caesarea Marittima.
Dr. Ramsay’s research integrates environmental archaeology, subsistence patterns, and trade dynamics to reconstruct human-environment interactions. She has been recognized for her teaching excellence, including the Archaeological Institute of America’s award (2019) and two SUNY Chancellor’s Awards (2014, 2020). Her work bridges interdisciplinary approaches to understand ancient economies, ecological adaptations, and cultural transitions.
