Jennifer McKinney is a Lecturer at Queen's University Belfast's School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work, specializing in systemic psychotherapy and social work. She is currently completing a Professional Doctorate in Advanced Research in Systemic Psychotherapy at the Tavistock Centre, London, focusing on young adults' experiences of belonging in Derry/Londonderry. Her roles include Programme Director for the MSc Systemic Psychotherapy and convening modules on family therapy and systemic thinking.
Education: Pursuing a Professional Doctorate in Advanced Research in Systemic Psychotherapy (Tavistock Centre, London).
Research interests center on social justice, marginalization, participatory research, and the intersection of arts and science in capturing lived experiences, particularly around poverty, trauma, and belonging. Recent work explores diversity, pandemic management, and child advocacy.
Key contributions include a focus on systemic psychotherapy practices, diversity in family therapy, and policy development. Awards include the WHSCT Social Work Award for Mentoring (2011) and Team Award (2017).
