Jennifer McIntosh AM is Professor of Systemic Practice and Family Therapy at La Trobe University, where she directs The Bouverie Centre and leads the Melbourne Attachment and Caregiving Lab. A clinical psychologist and family therapist, her career spans 35+ years researching child development within family systems.
Her work examines transgenerational trauma transmission, attachment security, and clinical interventions for families affected by conflict or violence. Research emphases include infant mental health integration with family therapy, relational impacts of parental depression, and trauma-responsive care models.
McIntosh's publications demonstrate consistent focus on translating developmental theories into clinical practice, particularly regarding high-conflict separation, parent-child bonding, and early intervention frameworks. Recent studies employ neurobiological measures alongside behavioral observation.
She received the Order of Australia for contributions to developmental psychology and holds current grants from the Australian Research Council on family court triage systems. Her team develops digital mental health platforms supporting family cocompletion of therapeutic modules.
