Jennifer Mason Lobo is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Virginia's Public Health Sciences School. Her research focuses on optimizing clinical decision-making and patient flow through operations research methodologies such as simulation, Markov decision processes, and optimization. Key areas include chronic disease management, telemedicine infrastructure for rural healthcare access, and improving healthcare system efficiency through data-driven approaches.
Education: PhD in Industrial Engineering (North Carolina State University, 2012), M.Sc. in Operations Research (NCSU, 2009), B.Sc. in Mathematics (University of South Carolina, 2007).
Research highlights include:
- Designing optimal control guidelines for chronic diseases
- Evaluating treatment strategies for small renal masses via microwave ablation vs surgery
- Tele-cystoscopy implementation for bladder cancer surveillance in rural areas
- Addressing disparities in diabetes preventive care across the U.S. 'Diabetes Belt'
Current grants include NIH-funded projects on renal mass management (R01CA284057), telemedicine expansion (American Cancer Society), and diabetes belt disparities (NIDDK 1R01DK113295).
Teaching includes courses on comparative effectiveness research, healthcare simulation, and quality management at UVA. Previously taught industrial engineering and calculus courses at NCSU.
