Jennifer Lowndes

Jennifer Lowndes is a Senior Lecturer in Nurse Education at Edge Hill University, specializing in Nursing Children and Young People, acute and critical care, and leadership in healthcare. Her career spans clinical practice and academic roles, with significant experience at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, including as Sister/Practice Educator and Lead Research Nurse for a nationwide clinical trial on Hydrocephalus. She holds a MSc in Leadership and Management (2019), a PGCert in Teaching in Higher Education (2016), and a Level 5 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring (2021).

Her research focuses on pediatric healthcare, student nurse wellbeing, and evidence-based practice. As Programme Lead for the MSci Dual Award in Nursing, she contributed to curriculum development. Her leadership roles emphasize clinical education, interprofessional collaboration, and healthcare innovation.

Jennifer’s career includes over 20 years in pediatric nursing, progressing from Staff Nurse (2001–2005) to advanced clinical roles, including Nurse Practitioner and independent prescriber. She has championed wellbeing initiatives for student nurses and led research in neurosurgical patient care.
