Jennifer Livingston, PhD, is an Associate Professor at the School of Nursing, University at Buffalo, where she conducts influential research on adolescent victimization, substance use, and sexual health. Her work bridges nursing, psychology, and public health, with a strong focus on prevention science and health equity.

- MA in Educational Psychology, State University of New York at Buffalo
- BA in Psychology, SUNY Buffalo State
Her research centers on understanding how early adverse experiences—particularly peer victimization, bullying, and sexual harassment—lead to substance use, mental health problems, and sexual risk behaviors in adolescents and emerging adults. She is especially interested in the mechanisms linking victimization to outcomes among sexual minority youth and college women. Her work emphasizes protective factors, social norms, and peer-based interventions. She employs longitudinal, daily diary, and mixed-methods designs to capture both immediate and long-term effects.
Recent publications highlight trends in sexual assault prevention using friend-based dyadic interventions, the role of sleep quality in mental health among LGBTQ+ youth, and the impact of social norms on bullying and harassment. Her research consistently uses innovative approaches, including motivational interviewing, normative feedback, and grounded theory, to develop and evaluate interventions.
