Dr. Jennifer Langill is a Lecturer in International Development at King's College London, affiliated with the Department of International Development within the School of Global Affairs. She joined King's in 2025 after completing a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Bristol, supported by SSHRC Canada. Her education includes a PhD in Geography from McGill University, an MA from the University of Toronto, and a BA (Hons) in Global Development Studies from Queen's University.
Her research focuses on feminist political ecology, human-environment relations, and rural livelihoods in the Global South, particularly in Southeast Asia and Amazonia. She employs ethnographic and qualitative methods to examine how social marginalization intersects with environmental change and development narratives. Key themes include gendered livelihood adaptations, climate vulnerability, and the impacts of migration and commodity booms on ethnic minorities.
Langill is part of King's research groups including Social Justice, Climate, Environment & Uneven Development, and Gender Studies. Her recent work analyzes flood vulnerability in the Peruvian Amazon, spice commodity cycles in Yunnan, and street vendor resilience during the pandemic in Southeast Asia. She actively supervises PhD students exploring related themes and contributes to interdisciplinary debates on feminist geographies and development studies.
