Jennifer L. Jennings is a Professor of Sociology and Public Affairs at Princeton University’s School of Public and International Affairs, and Director of the Education Research Section (ERS). Her research focuses on racial, socioeconomic, and gender disparities in educational and health outcomes, with an emphasis on policy interventions and systemic inequities. Jennings holds a B.A. from Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson School (with a certificate in Teacher Preparation), an M.Phil. in Education from the University of Cambridge, and a Ph.D. in Sociology from Columbia University.
Her work addresses critical issues such as school choice policies, environmental health in educational settings, and the impact of homelessness on access to education. Recent studies include analyses of informational interventions in high school selection, lead exposure in school water systems, and disparities in pre-K program quality. Jennings also critiques accountability systems and their effects on student outcomes, advocating for evidence-based reforms.
As ERS Director, she supports interdisciplinary research on education policy, bridging academic expertise with practical applications. Her scholarship consistently highlights how systemic structures perpetuate inequities, offering actionable insights for policymakers and educators.
