Jennifer L Pomeranz is an Associate Professor of Public Health Policy and Management at New York University, specializing in public health law and policy. She previously held roles as Assistant Professor at Temple University and Director of Legal Initiatives at Yale University’s Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity. Her research focuses on addressing the food environment, obesity, products causing public harm, and social injustices contributing to health disparities. She leads the Public Health Policy Research Lab and teaches courses on Public Health Law and Food Policy.
Education includes a BA in History from the University of Michigan, JD from Cornell Law School, and MPH from Harvard School of Public Health. Her work spans over 40 peer-reviewed articles and a book, Food Law for Public Health (Oxford University Press, 2016). Key areas of study include diet-related diseases, policy analysis of preemption laws, firearm safety policies, and regulatory frameworks for food labeling and taxation.
Dr. Pomeranz advocates for evidence-based policies to improve health equity, such as sugar-sweetened beverage taxes and restrictions on harmful food marketing. She has analyzed legal barriers to food security interventions and explored state-level policy dynamics affecting public health initiatives.
