Jennifer Josten is an Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of History of Art and Architecture at the University of Pittsburgh's Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences. Her research focuses on modern and contemporary art and design in Latin America, with particular attention to Cold War-era cultural exchanges and transnational artistic networks. She holds a Ph.D. from Yale University and has held fellowships at the Getty Research Institute and UCLA's Chicano Studies Research Center.
Her key publications include the award-winning book *Mathias Goeritz: Modernist Art and Architecture in Cold War Mexico* (2018), which examines the work of the German-Mexican artist in the context of political and cultural transformations. She also contributes to exhibition catalogs and curates courses integrating Pittsburgh's cultural institutions like the Carnegie Museum of Art.
Josten’s recent research projects explore contemporary Mexican art in international exhibitions and Cold War-era silkscreen posters in the Americas. She has received accolades including the Dietrich School’s Excellence in Graduate Mentoring Award (2020) and the ALAA-Arvey Foundation Book Award (2020).
In teaching and mentorship, she guides graduate and undergraduate students in topics such as Latinx art, border-crossing exhibitions, and critical museology. Her work bridges academic research with public engagement, as seen in her podcast discussions about the Museo de la Solidaridad Salvador Allende in Chile.
