Jennifer Higginbotham is an Associate Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of English at The Ohio State University. Her work focuses on early modern women’s writing, Shakespeare and Renaissance drama, feminist theory, and the history of childhood. She holds a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania (2007) and has received prestigious teaching awards, including the Alumni Distinguished Teaching Award, the highest honor for teaching at Ohio State.
Her research explores intersections of gender, literature, and political contexts. Key works include her monograph The Girlhood of Shakespeare’s Sisters: Gender, Transgression, Adolescence (2013) and articles in journals like Modern Philology and Literature Compass. She is currently developing a project on the poetics and aesthetics of Renaissance women’s writing.
Award recognition highlights her teaching excellence and commitment to accessibility. Her scholarship frequently addresses marginalized voices in early modern literature, including analyses of child characters in Shakespeare and literary alliances among women writers like Jane Cavendish and Elizabeth Brackley.
