Dr. Jennifer Ellington is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology & Biochemistry at Belmont Abbey College. She holds a B.S. from Siena College, an M.S. from the University of North Carolina – Charlotte, and a Ph.D. from Wake Forest University.
Her research expertise includes genetic epidemiology, molecular biology techniques (e.g., recombinant DNA, genotyping), and diabetes-related gene studies. She investigates gene loci associated with type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular complications, as well as microbial interactions with osteoblasts involving pathogens like Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella.
Her recent publications focus on genetic association studies of diabetes (e.g., PREX1, PTPN1 genes), cytokine responses in osteoblasts, and SNP mapping on chromosome 20q. She teaches courses such as General Biology, Genetics, and Biotechniques.
