Jennifer Dionne is a Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Stanford University, with a courtesy appointment in Radiology. She is also a Senior Fellow at the Precourt Institute for Energy, a Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Investigator, and deputy director of Q-NEXT (a DOE Quantum Initiative). Her research focuses on nanophotonics for global health and sustainability, including developing methods to observe chemical and biological processes with nanometer-scale resolution. She co-founded Pumpkinseed, a company advancing quantum sensors for immune system analysis.
Education: B.S. in Physics & Systems Science/Mathematics (Washington University, 2003), Ph.D. in Applied Physics (Caltech, 2009). Postdoctoral training in Chemistry at UC Berkeley.
Research Interests: Nanophotonics, biomedical imaging, quantum sensors, plasmonics, and sustainable materials. Her work spans culture-free pathogen detection, amplification-free nucleic acid sequencing, and atomic-scale imaging of light-driven reactions.
Recent Articles Focus: Quantum sensors, AI-driven diagnostics, photocatalysis, and novel optical devices. Key themes include merging nanophotonics with machine learning for precision medicine and sustainable energy.
- Awards: NSF Waterman Award, NIH New Innovator Award, Moore Inventor Fellowship, Presidential Early Career Award.
- Administration: Vice Provost of Shared Facilities (2020–2023), Senior Associate Dean of Research (2020–present).
- Labs/Teams: Dionne Research Group, Stanford Photonics Research Center.
