معرفی
Jennifer Dearolf is the Morris and Ann Henry Odyssey Professor of Biology at Hendrix College. She teaches courses such as Zoology, Marine Biology, and Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy. Her research focuses on vertebrate physiology, particularly respiratory and locomotor muscle development in mammals and cetaceans. She mentors undergraduate students in laboratory and field research, emphasizing hands-on learning and independent projects.
Education: B.A., St. Mary's College of Maryland (1996); M.S., University of North Carolina at Wilmington (1998); Ph.D., Cornell University (2002).
Research Interests: Investigates muscle adaptations in cetaceans (e.g., whales, dolphins) and the effects of prenatal steroids on breathing muscles in guinea pigs. Current projects include studies on diaphragm and scalenus muscle function in marine mammals and the role of steroids in fetal muscle development.
Grants: Received funding from the Hendrix Odyssey Program for projects like 'Morphology of the locomotor muscles of three Arctic seal species' (2019-2020).
Labs/Teams: Leads a lab with undergraduate researchers exploring muscle physiology and anatomy. Collaborates with institutions like the University of Georgia and Smithsonian Museum of Natural History.
