Jennifer Davis is a Professor of early modern European history and affiliate member of the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Oklahoma. She holds the L.R. Brammer, Jr. Presidential Professorship and serves as Director of Graduate Studies and Co-editor of the Journal of Women’s History. Her research focuses on French history, gender studies, and culinary/cultural transformation in the Atlantic world.
Notable publications include Bad Subjects: Libertine Lives in the French Atlantic (2023) and Defining Culinary Authority (2013). Her work explores themes like religious deviance, culinary labor, and revolutionary politics. Financial support for her research has come from institutions including the Mellon Foundation and the Fulbright Foundation.
Awarded the Regents’ Award for Superior Teaching, Davis teaches courses on European history, including specialized topics like Marie Antoinette and revolutionary France/Haiti. She consults on historical media projects like TLC’s Who Do You Think You Are? and actively directs student research in early modern and modern European history.
