Jennifer Carter

Jennifer Carter is a Full Time Lecturer at Stony Brook University, specializing in 20th/21st century continental philosophy, phenomenology, feminist philosophy, ethics, and philosophy of science/technology. She holds a Ph.D. (2018), M.A. (2012) from Stony Brook University, and a B.A. (2000) from UC Santa Cruz.

Her research explores Luce Irigaray's theories of touch and critiques of Western metaphysics, intersections between phenomenology and quantum mechanics, and challenges posed by AI and emerging technologies to traditional boundaries between natural and artificial. She is currently completing a monograph On Touch with Luce Irigaray (Palgrave).

Dr. Carter pioneers accessible interdisciplinary education, emphasizing interactive online learning. She teaches courses in digital intelligence (IAE 101), logical reasoning (PHI 108), business ethics (BUS 447), computer ethics, and philosophy of science through Stony Brook's Digital Intelligence Training Program.

Her work bridges humanities and STEM fields, integrating scientific and technological themes into philosophical inquiry.
