Jennifer Brigati is a Professor of Biology and Chair of the Division of Natural Sciences at Maryville College, where she has been on faculty since 2006. She earned her B.S. from Southampton College of Long Island University and Ph.D. from Auburn University under Dr. Valery Petrenko, focusing on phage-derived detection probes for Bacillus anthracis spores. Her postdoctoral training at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, involved genetic modification of bacteriophages for E. coli O157:H7 detection.
- Education
- B.S., Southampton College of Long Island University
- Ph.D., Auburn University
Dr. Brigati's research initially focused on molecular biology and biotechnology applications in bacteriophage engineering for pathogen detection. After completing the Biology Scholars Program Research Residency during her 2015-2016 sabbatical, her work shifted toward investigating best practices in biology education. She has co-led NSF RUI-funded research on nutrient and pheromone sensing pathways in yeast (2010-2013) and teaches courses including Genetics, Immunology, and Microbiology.
She serves as Chair of the Division of Natural Sciences at Maryville College, overseeing academic operations and faculty development within the college.
Grants & Collaborations:
- Co-Principal Investigator, NSF RUI project "Interdependence of nutrient and pheromone sensing pathways in yeast" (2010-2013)
