Jennifer Braun is an Assistant Professor of Sociology in the Department of Social Sciences at Concordia University of Edmonton. She holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Alberta (2019), an MSc in Environmental Sociology (2012), and a BA in International Development Studies (2008). Her research focuses on Canadian immigration patterns, particularly in small rural communities in Alberta, and examines federal/provincial immigration programs, funding mechanisms for immigrant-serving organizations, and LGBTQ2A+ refugee integration. She teaches courses in gender studies, race/ethnicity, qualitative methods, and sociology of health/illness through an anti-oppression pedagogical framework.
Her recent work includes analyzing public funding trends for immigrant settlement (Journal of Canadian Studies, 2023) and exploring women’s trust in Canada’s agri-food system (Agriculture and Human Values, 2019). She has presented at international conferences like CYRRC-LERN (Munich, 2019) and participated in anti-racism panels for Edmonton Public Schools (2022).
