Jennifer Adams serves as Professor of Communication and Theatre and Chair of the Communication and Theatre Department at DePauw University, holding the Alfred and Kathleen Evens Faculty Fellow distinction.
Her research examines critical intersections of historical free speech conflicts and gender rights movements. She actively investigates World War I-era women radicals imprisoned under the Sedition Act and has extensively studied Helen Gouger, Indiana's prominent suffrage leader who presided over the American Suffragist Federation. Adams co-authored a historically significant play about Gouger's fight for women's rights, performed annually in the Indiana Statehouse. Additionally, her doctoral work analyzed 1930s love letters to establish relationship development patterns and author Rules for How to Write Love Letters, while contrasting traditional epistolary practices with modern digital communication.
