Jenna LaFreniere is an Associate Professor and Graduate Advisor in the Department of Communication Studies at Texas Tech University's College of Media & Communication. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Denver, an M.S. from Texas Christian University, and a B.A. from the University of North Texas.
Her research focuses on interpersonal and family communication, particularly conflict dynamics and their psychological impacts. Methodological expertise includes survey research and mediated communication analysis. Key themes include parent-child relationships, emotion regulation, and the effects of family communication patterns on mental health.
Teaching responsibilities include courses on Communication in Relationships, Communication Theory, and Graduate Quantitative Research Methods. She has been recognized with multiple awards including the Texas Tech Alumni Association New Faculty Award (2018) and Top Paper distinctions from the National Communication Association and Central States Communication Association.
Her work has been featured in the Chicago Tribune and Wall Street Journal, highlighting practical insights into family communication strategies. She advises Lambda Pi Eta honor society and participates in the Texas Tech Teaching Academy.
