Dr. Jena D. Zarling is an Associate Professor of Psychology and Sociology at Richard Bland College of the College of William & Mary. With over 17 years of experience, she teaches and advises students in both in-person and online formats, focusing on at-risk populations, particularly first-generation college students. She serves as Chair of the Online Education Committee and created the Balance & Breathe Bash initiative.
- Education: B.A. in Sociology & Anthropology (Virginia Commonwealth University, 1999); M.A. in Sociology (Virginia Commonwealth University, 2003); Ph.D. in Psychology - Cognition & Instruction (Grand Canyon University, 2017).
- Research Interests: Mindfulness-based interventions for cognitive impairments, stereotype threat reduction, social cohesion dynamics, and online social interactions.
Her research explores how mindfulness practices can address learning barriers for marginalized students, as well as societal responses to political events and digital social behavior. She actively contributes to campus committees and dual enrollment programs.
Dr. Zarling’s publications span mindfulness in education, post-election social dynamics, and online social perception. She prioritizes community engagement and student support through counseling roles and institutional leadership.
