Jelena Nikitović is a docent (associate professor) at the University of Banja Luka's Institute of Genetic Resources, affiliated with the Faculty of Agriculture. Her work focuses on animal genetics, biodiversity conservation, and livestock management. She has contributed extensively to studies on Bosnian autochthonous breeds including jackals, Gatacko cattle, and the Bosnian Broken-haired Hound (Barak). Her research integrates genetic diversity analysis, phenotypic characterization, and conservation strategies for endangered breeds.
Key affiliations include the Institute of Genetic Resources and involvement in national and international projects. She has authored/co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles, with recent work emphasizing genetic variability in wildlife and livestock. Dr. Nikitović collaborates on projects addressing cattle diseases, sheep breeding, and molecular genetics of agricultural crops.
Her research interests span animal genetic resources, sustainable livestock practices, and biodiversity preservation.
