Mila Savić is a full Professor at the Department of Animal Husbandry, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Belgrade. She has been actively contributing to veterinary science and animal husbandry for several decades, with a particular focus on animal breeding, genetics, and conservation of traditional breeds.
Her research interests span across veterinary genetics, animal breeding, and conservation of traditional livestock breeds. She has made significant contributions to understanding molecular markers in animal breeding, sheep and dog genetics, and the conservation of endangered breeds like the Zackel sheep. Her work bridges practical animal husbandry with advanced genetic techniques to improve breeding practices and preserve genetic diversity in livestock populations.
Professor Savić's research demonstrates consistent focus on the conservation of traditional livestock breeds, particularly sheep varieties like the Zackel. Her publications show progression from basic genetic studies of blood proteins in the 1990s to more sophisticated molecular approaches in recent years. She has maintained strong collaborative relationships with colleagues across multiple institutions, frequently co-authoring with researchers like Vladimir Dimitrijević, Ružica Trailović, and Žolt Bečkei. Her work spans both fundamental research and practical applications in animal husbandry.
