Jelena Erceg is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology / Genetics and Genomics at the University of Connecticut. She holds a Ph.D. from EMBL/University of Heidelberg and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School. Her research focuses on understanding multi-scale genome organization and gene regulation in diploid organisms, particularly exploring how genome architecture influences cell fate and disease. She employs advanced genomic and single-molecule imaging techniques, including super-resolution microscopy, to study chromosomal interactions in development and disease contexts.
Her work integrates experimental and computational approaches, as seen in studies on chromosome pairing in Drosophila embryos and the functional implications of 3D genome landscapes. Key contributions include insights into homolog pairing dynamics, centromere structure, and the role of ultraconserved elements in genome organization.
