Jeffrey Whetstone is a Professor of Visual Arts and Director of the Program in Visual Arts at Princeton University's Lewis Center for the Arts. He holds a B.S. in Zoology and Film Studies from Duke University (1990) and an MFA in Photography from Yale University (2001). His work focuses on environmental portraiture and the intersection of human activity with natural landscapes, particularly in post-industrial and post-disaster regions. Notable projects include New Wilderness (2007 Guggenheim Fellowship), The Batture Ritual (2017 Prospect New Orleans), and Post-Pleistocene (2008).
Whetstone's research explores ecological themes through photography, film, and installation art. He has exhibited globally at institutions like the Whitney Museum, Weatherspoon Art Museum, and Julie Saul Gallery. His honors include the Factor Prize for Southern Art (2008), North Carolina Arts Fellowships (2006, 2012), and a Yale University photography prize (2001).
