Dr. Jeffrey W. Pollard is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Criminology, Law and Society at George Mason University, specializing in threat assessment, psychotherapy, and higher education policy. He co-founded Mason's Threat Assessment Team and previously served as Executive Director of Counseling and Psychological Services and Psychologist for Mason Police. His work spans violence prevention, offender treatment, and mental health advocacy, including testimony on federal legislation like VAWA and H.R. 838.
Dr. Pollard holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Virginia with a residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School. He has taught courses on threat assessment, advanced psychotherapy, and statistical analysis. Notable recognitions include the AUCCCD Lifetime Achievement Award (2010), Emeritus Counseling Center Director status (2012), and multiple Leighton Whitaker Memorial Awards (2016/2019).
His research focuses on campus safety, stigma in psychotherapy, and alcohol use impacts, including a 15-year longitudinal study on drinking effects. He has co-authored influential works like Campus Violence: Kinds Causes and Cures (1993) and contributed to Journal of Threat Assessment and Management. Pollard co-led Virginia Tech's Victims Family Outreach Foundation and advised national threat assessment initiatives via the DOJ and COPS.
