Jeffrey Ullom is an Associate Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies at the Department of Theater, Case Western Reserve University. His academic career focuses on theater history, dramaturgy, and contemporary American theater, with a particular emphasis on new play development in regional theatre circuits and Broadway. He holds a PhD from the University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana and a BA from Vanderbilt University.
His research spans two decades of regional theater analysis, including his acclaimed books on the Humana Festival (2008) and Cleveland Play House (2014), alongside a forthcoming 2025 publication examining the future of regional theater. He has collaborated with luminaries like Tony Kushner and Anne Bogart, contributing to journals such as Theatre History Studies and Theatre Journal.
As a practitioner, Ullom served in the literary department at Actors Theatre of Louisville during the Humana Festival’s 20th anniversary and acted as Theatre History Consultant for the Guthrie Theater (2003–2006). He coauthored a chapter in Angels in the American Theater (2015) and dramaturged numerous Cleveland Play House productions.
