Jeffrey Sklansky is a Professor of History at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), affiliated with the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences' Department of History. He specializes in intellectual and social history of capitalism in colonial America and the United States. Sklansky holds a PhD from Columbia University and taught at Oregon State University before joining UIC in 2011.

Research Interests: Sklansky investigates how Americans conceptualized market relations and social dynamics from the colonial era to the 20th century. His work bridges economic, cultural, and political history, focusing on themes like class struggle, monetary systems, and the evolution of social science frameworks. Recent projects explore pension systems and institutional investment since the 1970s.
Publications: His books The Soul’s Economy (2002) and Sovereign of the Market (2017) received major academic awards. Articles address topics ranging from retirement systems to the financial crisis of 2008.
