Cory Davis is a Lecturer and UIC Global Coordinator in the Department of History at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). He holds a Ph.D. in History from UIC (2015), an MA and BA in History from the University of Missouri—Columbia.
His research focuses on the history of capitalism, 19th-century U.S. economic and political development, and commercial organizations. His doctoral dissertation, *“A Merchant’s Republic: The National Board of Trade and Commercial Capitalism in the U.S., 1840–1912,”* examines how merchant networks shaped national policy. He is currently developing a book proposal titled *The Republic of Commerce: Merchants and Capitalism in the United States, 1840–1912*. Davis teaches courses on the American Civil War, early 20th-century social history, and U.S./world history surveys.
