Jeffrey Schnapp is a Professor of Romance Languages & Literatures and Comparative Literature in Harvard’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences, with a joint appointment in the Department of Architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. He serves as Director of metaLAB (at) Harvard and the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society. His work bridges academia, digital humanities, and cultural innovation, focusing on media, technology, design, and the history of the book. Schnapp’s research explores intersections of technology, public discourse, and cultural heritage, with projects like the Trento Tunnels museum and the Digital Public Library of America.
Education: PhD in Comparative Literature from Stanford University, with advanced studies in Italy, France, and Spain, and a B.A. in Hispanic Studies from Vassar College.
Research interests include digital humanities, museum innovation, media studies, and Italian cultural history. He has pioneered experimental scholarship through metaLAB, blending art, technology, and critical inquiry.
