Jeffrey Schatz is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of South Carolina, affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on the cognitive, psychological, and educational impacts of chronic pediatric health conditions, particularly sickle cell disease (SCD).
Education:
- B.Sc. in Psychology from the University of Iowa (1989)
- Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Washington University in St. Louis (1997)
- Postdoctoral Fellowship in Clinical Neuropsychology at University of California, San Francisco (1996–1998)
His work examines how SCD affects cognitive development, school adjustment, and quality of life through biopsychosocial models integrating family, behavioral, and neuroimaging data. Recent publications highlight SCD-related ADHD comorbidity, neurodevelopmental screening, pain-emotion interactions, and systemic inflammation’s role in neurobehavioral outcomes. Methodologically, he employs daily diary studies, longitudinal analyses, and multimodal assessments.

Dr. Schatz teaches courses in Abnormal Psychology, Psychological Assessment, Cognitive Neuropsychology, and Neuropsychological Assessment of Children. He is actively accepting graduate students for Fall 2024.
