Jeffrey Sarmiento

Jeffrey Sarmiento is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Art & Design, Australian National University (ANU). As Chair of the Education Committee, he contributes to academic leadership while maintaining an active creative practice in glass art.

• Research Focus: Cultural identity as expressed through graphic imagery in kiln-formed glass, integrating printed layers and collaborative ethnographic approaches.
• Education: PhD in Art and Design from the University of Sunderland (2007-2011), Rhode Island School of Design (undergraduate).

His practice combines glass printing, waterjet cutting, and lenticular techniques to create transparent sculptures and public commissions embedded with cultural narratives. Recent research outputs explore dimensional printing and visual distortions in glass (2018-2021).

Scientific Awards:

• International Glass Prize 2012 (Glazenhuis, Belgium)
• Fulbright Fellowship in Denmark

Grants & Projects: Led the ANU-funded Glass 3D Printer project (2022), developing advanced fabrication methods. Has curated exhibitions like European Glass Context and served as jury member for Young Glass at Ebeltoft Glasmuseum.
